About venetian blinds
Venetian blinds are built by long slats held together with rope. The slats can be made from three different material; metal, wood or plastic.
Metal is most common in Scandinavia with good reasons since they are most durable. Metal slats have low weight and is not affected by sunlight or varied temperatures or humidity. The metal slats are often painted in different colors like white, black or grey.
Wood slats are often a bit thicker and can be nice to look at. In interior design wood blinds can be used to give a room a certain rustic feeling. Some wood venetian blinds are always suspended to give shadow in very sunny climates. Wood blinds are more sensitive to moisture and cracking which means they might not be suitable where the indoor climate changes frequently and rapidly.
Plastic venetian blinds are often the cheapest and might also have all plastic control parts that easily brakes. The plastic slats are often painted white, black or grey.
Usually a venetian blind has two controls. One control which is usually a stick angles the slats to either block all sunshine or open to let sunshine in. The other control which is usually a rope is to lift all slats as a whole up or down. This rope can also be set to any position in between to partially block a window.
Venetian blinds are more restricted to the functional aspect of keeping sunlight away and restricting outside view. Venetian blinds doesn’t improve room design the same way a curtain or drape can.
